Professional score videos for composers and publishers

I’ve been creating score videos for years now and developing skills to deal with challenging contemporary music. I also work for the Canadian Music Centre in BC and have created hundreds of score videos for them so far.
Why Score Videos Matter
A great score video does more than show your music—it communicates it.
In a world where most people experience music online, a synchronized score video is the clearest and most engaging way to present your work. Whether you’re a composer looking to submit to festivals, a publisher promoting your catalogue, or an ensemble sharing a new commission, a score video turns your notation into a living, breathing experience.
It makes your music accessible to conductors, musicians, and audiences around the world—even those who may never hold the printed score in their hands.
A professionally produced score video sets your work apart with clarity, beauty, and precision. It shows that you care how your music is seen as much as how it’s heard.

My Approach to Score Videos
Every score video I create is built with the performer, composer, and viewer in mind.
- 📜 Readable Layouts – I crop excess margins so that the music appears as large and clear as possible on screen.
- 🧾 Paper Colour – I often use cream backgrounds to match printed scores, but can customize to your aesthetic or institutional branding.
- 🖼️ Aspect Ratios That Fit the Score – While most videos are in 16:9 for YouTube, I can also produce 4:3 and other formats for better legibility, especially for portrait-oriented or dense scores.
- 📽️ Two-Page Spreads for Orchestral Scores – For large ensemble works, I display two pages at once to maximize visibility and flow.
- 🧵 Smooth Audio Syncing – I ensure the score follows the music seamlessly, whether through page turns, scrolling formats, or animated cues.
- 🎨 Creative Options – Scrolling scores, videos of individual parts, or experimental presentations are available when the music suggests it.
- Perusal Score Watermark or Branding Options
My aim is to make your music not only heard, but understood—visually, sonically, and professionally.
You can see I use (for CMC) a cream colored paper, just cause. Since when we print parts it is on cream coloured paper.
But I can use white or anything; also I can add a watermark ‘PERUSAL SCORE’ if needed.
All CMC BC videos are all at the aspect ratio of 16/9.
But I can use other aspect ratios if the score needs it.
Sometimes a score doesn’t work as well at 16/9; for instance: https://youtu.be/_3tlUvAnFiM?list=PLSAcT-loHFCm-m1nPei24miu7jpBOusAz
Here is a private score video I made for myself at 4/3 ratio, which fits most screens better.
Also my orchestra scores or large ensemble scores are in high res (often 4K) video so they are crisp and clean if viewed on a large monitor.
I like to crop the white margin space on the pages so the notes are bigger and more readable.
Also on full page orchestral scores I show two pages at a time, since 1 page of a full score in the exact centre seems like a waste of space.
Many of the score videos online, even by Professional publishers don’t do that.
For instance here is a low res score that you can barely read.
Also, I have fun when the composition suggests it:

FEEDBACK
The feedback has been really encouraging. I’ve heard from performers, teachers, and composers about how useful these are for previewing music, teaching, and generally increasing visibility.
A couple of recent comments:
“By the looks of the number of views received so far, this Video Score project is probably the most exposure my Dad’s music has had in years! I’m absolutely thrilled!” – Karen Smithson (Elliot Weisgarber’s daughter)
“The CMC score videos are an incredibly important resource. These scores have allowed me to easily incorporate far more Canadian music into the courses I teach at UBC, and bring more Canadian music to my students.” – Jennifer Butler, Composer/UBC Lecturer
“Jordan Nobles is a brilliantly innovative creator of digital content driving engagement and building community.” – Sean Bickerton, Director, CMC BC
“I regularly view score videos to better know the music of my colleagues. It is also a marvelous resource for teaching music composition and a way for others to get to know my work. I highly recommend them.” – Rodney Sharman
“Jordan’s score videos are an invaluable resource, whether I am a mentor guiding my students, a concert programmer researching repertoire, a composer connecting with performers and fans, or a music lover looking to discover what others are creating. And as Jordan is a composer himself, he is able to relate sound and image with exceptional elegance. His work makes so much of my own work so much easier!” – Jeffrey Ryan
