SCORE VIDEOS

I’m a composer, and I genuinely love making score videos. I’ve produced hundreds of them — many for the Canadian Music Centre’s digital archive — and at this point it’s something I do with real care and enthusiasm.

I know how much a well-presented score video can matter — for a grant panel at 10 p.m., for a publisher browsing your catalogue, for performers and commissioners looking for a new work, for a festival programmer watching a dozen submissions in a row. A good score video makes your music easier to share, easier to follow, easier to remember, and easier to champion.

You send me your score and audio. I take care of the rest.

Score videos have also become a genuinely useful teaching tool — for university instructors incorporating more contemporary repertoire into their courses, and for students and programmers who want to study a score without hunting down a physical copy.

Your finished score video can live wherever it will be most useful: embedded on your composer website, or publisher’s site, uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo, or shared directly or privately. If you do not have a YouTube channel of your own, I can also take care of the YouTube upload.

Ideal for:

  • Publisher and archive catalogues
  • Grant and arts council applications
  • Composer and publisher websites
  • YouTube and Vimeo promotion
  • Festival and competition submissions
  • Social media clips
  • University courses and music education
  • Score study and repertoire research

Readable Layouts – I often crop any excess white margins so the music appears as large and clear as possible on screen.

Audio Syncing – Page turns seamlessly matched to the recording.

Aspect Ratios HD (16×9), TV/iPad (4×3), Classic (3×2), or Cinema (2.4×1) — based on what works best for the score.

Resolution – 720p, 1080p, or 4K — whatever the composition calls for.

Two-Page Spreads – For orchestral and large ensemble works, two pages can be displayed at once for better visibility and flow.

Paper Colour – Standard white, or customized to match printed scores, your aesthetic, or institutional branding.

Watermark – A perusal watermark or custom branding can be added if needed.

Creative Options – Scrolling scores, videos of individual parts, or other formats are available when the music calls for it.

What audio works best?
A studio or professionally recorded performance is ideal. A clean demo recording usually works well too. If you’re unsure, just send it and I’ll let you know.

What if my score has unconventional notation?
Good — that’s where experience matters. I’ve worked with graphic scores, spatial layouts, and extended notation. Send it over.

What format will I receive?
A full HD MP4, ready to upload to YouTube, embed on your website, or share directly.

Can I include performer credits or programme notes?
Yes. Title slides, performer and ensemble credits, composer information, and brief notes can all be incorporated.

What if the video needs a small change after delivery?
Minor corrections are usually straightforward. Just ask.

What if I need a version for social media?
A short excerpt clip formatted for Instagram or other platforms can be added to any order.

Can you work with unconventional or graphic scores?
Yes — spatial layouts, graphic notation, and extended techniques are welcome; that’s exactly where experience with the repertoire matters.

How long does it take?
Most videos are delivered within just a few days; larger or more complex scores may take a little longer.

What if it needs revisions?
Revisions are included in the price.

Can I get a video of individual parts rather than the full score?
Sure, part videos are available and work especially well for educational and promotional use.

“By the looks of the number of views received so far, this Video Score project is probably the most exposure my Dad’s music has had in years! I’m absolutely thrilled!” – Karen Smithson (Elliot Weisgarber’s daughter)

“The CMC score videos are an incredibly important resource. These scores have allowed me to easily incorporate far more Canadian music into the courses I teach at UBC, and bring more Canadian music to my students.” – Jennifer Butler, Composer/Lecturer, Faculty of Arts | School of Music, University of British Columbia

“I regularly view score videos to better know the music of my colleagues. It is also a marvelous resource for teaching music composition and a way for others to get to know my work. I highly recommend them.” – Rodney Sharman, Composer

“Jordan’s score videos are an invaluable resource, whether I am a mentor guiding my students, a concert programmer researching repertoire, a composer connecting with performers and fans, or a music lover looking to discover what others are creating. And as Jordan is a composer himself, he is able to relate sound and image with exceptional elegance. His work makes so much of my own work so much easier!” – Jeffrey Ryan, Composer
